Ball became familiar with Green Chimneys during his years in office, and said he soon realized the impact the charity has on the lives of children with special needs.
Green Chimneys provides a soothing environment for children with mental health issues –– such as depression, trauma and autism spectrum disorders –– that allows them to interact with animals in a controlled setting. Under Green Chimney’s guidance, the children help take care of the animals on the farm. In doing so, they learn to follow directions and develop a sense of self-control.
“I’ve been impressed with Green Chimneys and their good works since representing them in the Assembly and then Senate,” Ball said via email.
Through the partnership with the Victory Cup, Green Chimneys will receive 70 percent of the cost of any ticket purchased with the promotional code “GreenChimneys.” The funds, however, aren’t the only benefits for the charity.
Jennifer Milillo, director of Marketing and Communications at Green Chimneys, said the potential publicity for the charity at such a popular event — 2,000 people attended in 2015 — was another reason for the collaboration.
“We’re glad to be in a position where we can partner with events like this and increase our visibility in the community,” Milillo said.
New York Yankees president Randy Levine and his wife Mindy will be featured as the honorary chairs at Saturday’s event.
“I had visited Green Chimneys a while back and told Randy about it,” Mindy Levine said. “We felt very compelled to do something to help.”
Shortly after, Ball told the Levines of the partnership between Green Chimneys and the Victory Cup, and asked them to be involved with the event.
The Levines recently pledged a $10,000 donation directly to Green Chimneys, which they challenged the public to match through both ticket sales and direct donations.
“Green Chimneys is an outstanding organization,” Randy Levine said. “They help a lot of people. They do wonderful things. Any small way that I can help an organization that helps so many people I’m very honored to do it.”
Also benefiting from the event is Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue, which is returning to the event for a second time. The Victory Cup will donate 70 percent of all tickets purchased with the promotional code “LOHR” to Lucky Orphans, which is in Dover Plains.
The charities will be honored following the final polo match before player awards and trophies are distributed.
