Who knew there were so many polo clubs in the Lower Hudson Valley?
There are several ways to experience “the sport of kings” this summer.
The Officers Cup
The Mashomack Polo Club in Pine Plains hosts matches, but it also offers instruction for those who want to learn, from youth through adults, including clinics, leagues and private instructions.
Through July 1 is the USPA Officers Cup. Admission to the matches is free and open to the public. You can tailgate, and well-behaved dogs on leashes welcome.

Polo and craft beer
The Victory Cup, called “America’s Polo Match,” comes to Patterson’s 3J Ranch, and along with the matches, the event, July 14, will also include food, spirits, wines and a craft brewers festival.
Some of the brands to expect include Clifton Cider, Peony Vodka, Fishers Island Lemonade, New Paltz Brewing Co, YaVe Tequila, 1857 Spirits, Gristmill Distillers, Treasury Hard Cider, Broken Bow Brewery, RS Taylor & Sons Brewery, Cross Roads Brewery, Twin Stills, Seneca Lake Brew, Cooperstown Distillery, Blue Toad Hard Cider, and Sahm Brewing Company.
Dressing up for the polo matches, including hats, is encouraged. Aside from the matches and the craft beer festival, there’s a lot of fun things, such as stomping divots between matches, best dressed contests and hot air balloon rides.
Event is noon-9 p.m. If it rains, the event goes on and tastings take place under tents.
Go: 3J Ranch, 683 Route 311, Patterson. A range of tickets, starting at $16, are available at different levels and prices increase as the event nears. Go to https://victorycup.org/farmbash/ for info and to purchase tickets.
